The Ajuru wooden serving platter is hand carved from a single piece of mango wood using traditional tools. The talented artisans work with the grain to create practical serveware that has a remarkable organic beauty. This piece is especially suited to dips, olives or any kind of anti pasto.
Mango Wood is fast becoming a sustainable wood choice. It is classed as a strong wood but unlike other strong woods, such as Oak that take 50-100 years to grow fully, Mango Wood can grow to 80-100 feet in 15 years. As well as being fast growing, it is also a by-product of the booming Mango industry. In times gone by when a mango tree has grown too tall to harvest the fruit, or stopped bearing fruit altogether, the tree would be felled and burnt. By using the trees for products made from Mango Wood, we are not only positively using the by product, we are also providing further income to the Mango Tree farmers. When an old tree is used for the wood, a new tree is planted in its place.
To care for your mango wood wash in warm soapy water, rinse and dry immediately. To nourish and protect the natural wood, rub an edible oil such as olive oil or walnut oil into the surface with a cloth.
